Strange (transmission)? Noise turbo '00 VW Golf?

I have a 2000 VW Golf Turbo runs great, no major problems. Recently, when running low (1-2) and usually when the hills Climing makes a strange noise (sounds like either the transmission or the turbo is straining) that has got progressively stronger over the past six months. There has been no degradation in performance at all, just this noise. I do not realize that when driving on flat ground (I live on a hill in San Francisco, so I'm often in the hills), or at higher speeds, although the road noise could be assumed that covers it. Anyone have any ideas? It is difficult, of course, to find similar problems with such a generic description. Thank you!

you can have an exhaust leak light causing this problem I've seen this before and it seems that his arrival in the transmission, and when your in a spot that appears more in him, he may have put on a shelf fat and keep it running, and you may find it very fast like that, that's usually how I find here in the shop, so i hope this help, s.
