What is a great place for a wedding reception in Oakland County, Michigan?

I’m getting married next year and having at least 200 guests. I am having the ceremony in Rochester Hills, Mi. I am looking for a site that is at the most 30 minutes away from there. Does anyone know of a great place to have the reception? I want a place that has a lot of character, not just the typical golf course, country club. Also I don’t want anything that is way too expensive. Please help me! I was looking at Canterbury Village, but it’s way too small.

Have you looked at Meadow Brook, it’s a historic mansion with almost a “castle” feel. Here is the website: http://www4.oakland.edu/?id=3149&sid=87 I don’t know about pricing, you would probably have to call and ask (and of course one person’s “expensive” is another’s “cheap”!).

If you want a more unusual setting, have you considered renting out a local museum? You would have to rent tables and chairs but the decor would already be amazing! Of course, it would depend on the museum if it could accomodate 200 guests. In addition to Meadow Brook, some other universities and colleges in the area might have nice venues available to rent. Also, I’m sure there are a lot of nice hotels in the area between Troy, Sterling Heights, etc. that could accomodate your guests but I understand that wouldn’t be particularly unique. Good luck & congratulations!
