a good follow through helps when you’re driving a golf ball to increase the distance of the drive. a good follow through refers to the fact that the club head is kept in contact with the ball a long as possible. using the impulse-momentum theorem, explain why this technique allows you to hit farther. thank you anyone who answers this.=]
to maximize change in momentum of ball, which results in a higher ball speed, the impulse of the golf club against the ball must be maximized.
impulse = Favg x time
Favg = (avg tangential acceleration of club)(mass of ball)
For a given golfer the Favg is constant or nearly so, then the impulse can be maximized by increasing time.
time = length of time ball is in contact with golf club, ie the time of “follow thru” must be maximized.
